Returning to the ’20 vintage, and one of the Marlborough Sauvignon Blancs on the ‘Fine Wines of New Zealand’ list. Not shy, this has a vibrant nose of cut grass, green papaya, chamomile, lemon blossom, nectarine and grapefruit. Crisp acidity with a tension and shiver to the palate. Opening to wider, golden, tropical fruits, but underpinned and held taut with a salinity and a crushed shell, mineral edge.
Finely balanced and with a multitude of layers to dive through. I find a crisp tea biscuit flavour, and a green tea slightly tannic note, lurking amongst the more obvious herbal and mineral notes. One for the inquisitive, and plenty of character – as well as lots of familiarity, from our classic Sauvignon style. Enjoyed over a long, sunny, end-of-Autumn lunch and was a crowd pleaser. 93pts.
