Sourced from Bridge Pa in Hawke’s Bay, and the excellent 2019 vintage. A crimson ruby colour in the glass; light, but with deep aromas on the nose of plum, rosehip, white pepper, raspberry and a lovely floral lift of violets. Medium bodied, light on its feet, and dances into a fresh palate of blueberry, redcurrant and cassis.
Defined by tannins rather than acidity, it’s got both in a delicate balance – with the tannins supple and spicy. A layer of flavours that add depth arrive after the ripe palate – with leather, mocha and more spices… like getting lost in an Egyptian souk (did that once). 92pts. A graceful, classic HB Syrah, and currently $20 online – great value!
