Made by Daniel Brennan (Decibel Dan), from Martinborough grapes. Showing a vibrant garnet in the glass. Juicy red cherry, blood orange, lilac blossom, raspberry and cake spice aromas. Elegant and medium bodied, lithe and coltish at the front, with denser succulent fruit flavours of damson and cassis. Complex layers ranging from the sweetness of date, vanilla and mocha to more savoury notes of tapenade, sumac and star anise deeper in the palate. Trademark Martinborough damp loam and autumn leaf earthiness is never far from the tongue, and there’s a nettle, olive leaf stalkiness present. Framed with spicy new oak, with soft, balanced acidity and ripe, supple tannins. Textural and svelte, it floods the senses and leads to a long, harmonious finish. 93pts.
