A single vineyard wine, from the Maybern vineyard behind the Johanneshof Cellar Door in Koromiko, in Marlborough. A translucent scarlet colour – with a gleam of orange and gold at the edges. On the nose it is quite floral – jasmine – and vibrantly fruity with nectarine and mandarin. Dry and with a muted acidity – soft, ripe and luscious. On the palate is red apple, white peach, raspberry and watermelon. With a couple of years in the bottle, the wine has a fine balance – plush and textural, but retains some grippy tannins and a vivacious but refined character. Not your average pink lolly water, this is serious stuff – I’d wager it would age beautifully. 93pts. Drunk on NZ Rosé Day on Friday 5th February, to celebrate our outstanding New Zealand rosés.
