Central Otago fruit goes into a distinctive version of Sauvignon Blanc – a silvery, bright, pale yellow with aromas of white-fleshed peach, citrus blossom, passionfruit and lime underpinned with green herb and capsicum. Crisp and juicy with sliced pear, grapefruit and green papaya on the palate. A brisk acidity leads to a layer of minerality with a saline tang. A lovely balance, which is perhaps due in part to the viscose, waxy texture (a portion in barrel, and some extended lees contact) that adds real character and polish. There’s a lingering, succulent finish, with a hint of wet stone and blanched almond. 92pts. Another fascinating expression of ‘our national wine’.
