From Marlborough, and the excellent 2019 vintage – this is a bold Chardonnay with smoky notes of toasted hazelnut, buttered toast, vanilla and mandarin peel on the nose. Decently weighty – concentrated flavours of rockmelon, grapefruit, fig and nectarine on the palate merge into a sweet/savoury balance like fennel and sweetcorn. Great balance – packed with energy and focus. A touch of warm spice and a soft but not cloying texture. Oak influence is well integrated, and at the back of the palate comes saline burst of preserved lemon. 92pts.
