Rockburn Pinot Noir 2019

Rockburn Pinot Noir 2019

The new vintage of this wine – from the great 2019 vintage. I reviewed the single vineyard wines from Rockburn recently, but have now returned to try the cuvé, which takes parcels of fruit from each of the vineyards to produce a ‘classic Central Otago Pinot Noir’.

A full-coloured, glowing ruby colour in the glass. Scented with cherry, damson, musk rose and provencal herbal aromas. Concentrated and intense on the palate – ripe and balanced. Sweet meets savoury with a spicy earthiness, hints of autumn leaves and underpinned with red fruits – redcurrant and vanilla-poached tamarillo.

A layer of quartz-like mineral and a suggestion of green – nettle and olive. Tight but fine tannins and a seasoning of oak add to the depth and complexity. A glossy texture of plush velvet envelops the finish, which is persistant and well-rounded. 94pts. My favourite Rockburn Pinot Noir in over a dozen years.
