Traditionally one of the country’s most lauded white wines, from a single vineyard site in Hawke’s Bay. Interesting to try this new release from the 2019 vintage that many are declaring one of our generations great years.
Pale yellow, gleaming lime-green at the edges. An elegant, heady bouquet of lemon, blanched almond and peach – with the struck-match reductive nose noticeably reduced this year. Medium-full bodied and intense, although still tightly bound; with a succulent concentration of lime, nectarine and grapefruit.
An opulent wine, but with refinement, balance and complex layers of flavour to be discovered beneath the fruit. Textural and plush with a silky viscosity. A cashew and vanilla nougat richness from some 40% new oak. A steely acidity gives good drive through to a long, minerally, intense finish. 95 points – Excellent
