An exciting day recently on the Escarpment Vineyard. With vineyard upgrades in progress, the team knew it was time to set out and find the bottle of sparkling wine planted alongside their first vine at Te Muna Rd, 21 years ago.
Both the vine and bottle had been blessed by Aunty Sally, a local spiritual Kaumatua, and so the Escarpment journey began.
After looking through historical photos of the day over a cup of tea, the team started to formulate a plan to discover the select vine and therefore where the bottle could be. The team set off with spades, boots and lots of enthusiasm.
The photos tell the story. Bottle found, cork in and waiting to be opened…but what will be become of it?
