This was one of the dozen wines selected by Andrew Caillard MW as part of his vintage selection (in 2016 he chose 8 Bordeaux-style wines and 4 Syrahs). Fruit from Gimblett Gravels using the blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot. 100% de-stemmed fruit was hand plunged in open top fermenters. Post fermentation it spent 20 months in French oak (60% new).
Under screw cap with a colour profile that is bright and glossy – an impenetrable deep ruby. On the nose, aromas of cassis, blackberry and cedar are prominent. Tannins are firm yet slightly creamy with flavours of blackberry, bracken, charred oak and hint of espresso. Supple acidity. Overall this is bold and concentrated with a long finish. Expect many years of pleasurable drinking. 93pts
