Clearview Estate Enigma 2013

From the renowned 2013 vintage and a barrel selection with a blend of 80% Merlot, 10% Malbec and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The fruit was crushed and de-stemmed into 2000 litre tanks and fermented with a mixture of wild and inoculated yeasts then matured in a mix of new and seasoned French and American barriques. Sealed under diam.

Deep opaque ruby red. Still very tight and closed on the nose, despite decanting, with aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant and cassis. Definitely dense, dark and brooding. Similarly, in the mouth it is best described as concentrated and rich with dark black fruit and toasty charred oak. Massive structure, power and tannins.  Finish is pronounced and extended. Like many 2013 wines, this is a wine that will benefit from further bottle ageing, but all the components are there and I look forward to trying my next bottle in 5 years time. 94pts
