A Sauvignon Blanc from one single block of Zealand’s Seaview Vineyard in the Awatere sub-region of Marlborough. The L5 block sits on an exposed, north-facing coastal slope. Winner of a Gold Medal at the New Zealand International Wine Show that I judged this year.
A pale lemon-green colour in the glass. It has the intense and vibrant aromas that is characteristic of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, with plenty of green notes of capsicum, pea pod, freshly cut grass, lime and gooseberry. There is also some verbena, grapefruit, white pepper and lemon blossom. The palate shows both a stony minerality and a sea-breeze salinity – lively and carrying you through to a mouth-watering finish. A well-made example of a classic style. 91pts
