Wild Earth Pinot Noir 2017

Wild Earth Pinot Noir 17

Not shy of winning hatfuls of awards and medals, the latest vintage of this stellar Central Otago Pinot Noir just won another Gold Medal – at NZIWS this October. A beautiful purple-hued wine; with aromas of black cherries and berries with earthy leaf mould and thyme crushed underfoot. The ripe fruits of redcurrants and black olive lie in concentrated layers of mineral stoniness and woody herbs.

Deep, dark and driven by a supple tannic line and a swarthy texture. Rich but balanced – some sparkly acidity leads to a mouthwatering finish that is harmonious and decadent. A quite complex wine that kept surprising me with more turns at each mouthful – at once vibrantly fruity, then enveloping and plump. A long future ahead for this one – reports of twelve year old vintages here still drinking beautifully…
