A Hawke’s Bay Syrah from 2017 – a cooler vintage. The fruit was hand harvested at 21° Brix from the Gimblett Gravels. From MS (Mass Selection) clone of Syrah the fruit was 100% de-stemmed, but not crushed to limit extraction of tannins. This wine spent 11-months in barrel 20% of the blend was stored in new oak and the balance stored in a combination of 1, 2 and 3 year-old barrels. Sealed with a Diam closure. In the glass it presents as medium-deep purple in colour. Earthy, savoury, smoky bacon fat aromas and matching flavours. Fresh mouth-watering acidity. Drinking well now with many years of pleasurable drinking ahead. 12% ABV reflects the cooler vintage and the elegant touch which is a hall mark of any Sam Harrop wine. 93pts
