Crossroads ‘Milestone’ Pinot Noir 2017

Crossroads ‘Milestone’ Pinot Noir 2017

A Pinot Noir from Marlborough, in a season which was challenging but generally led to high-quality, concentrated wines due to the lower yields. I don’t think it was my belief that these condition can often lead to wines that age particularly well that led me to have this budget-friendly bottle stashed away for this long… but whatever the reason, it was time to taste it.

A mid-burgundy ruby red colour in the glass. The aromas showed raspberry, cherry, cranberry, sage, thyme and a light marmite savouriness too. Acidity is saline and vibrant as it picks up the tangy fruit flavours and pushes them forward. Sinewy tannin gives structure, and that savoury, umami note returns to balance the red berries. Drunk alongside a baked lamb dish with fresh herbs, this was a great food match, and had plenty of the typicity of a Marlborough Pinot that you would look for. 86pts
