A wine from the Waipara Valley in North Canterbury. A slightly opaque, dense crimson colour in the glass. Complex and vibrant aromas of red cherry, blackberry, mulberry, blood orange and woody spices, A lesson in elegance as fine, filigree tannins caress the mid-weight palate. Well-balanced between ripe fruit, crackling acidity and spicy oak notes. With the time in bottle, some secondary, savoury elements are coming out, such as chinotto, mushroom and roasted root vegetables. Quite seamless – the years have smoothed any edges and there’s a lovely flow into a harmonious finish with good persistence. 93pts
