A single vineyard wine, from their Home Block vineyard in Marlborough’s Wairau Valley. An inky burgundy-purple colour in the glass. The bouquet has stunning varietal typicity and depth of flavour. Black cherry, blueberry, bramble, raspberry, orange peel, rose petals. Some whole bunch in the ferment lifts the perfume and gives weight to the palate. Fine tannin and buoyant acidity, so not just about primary fruit – the palate is firm and structured but overlaid with succulent, fleshy fruit, so that it seems sleeker through the middle than expected. The finish is spicy and concentrated. This could age very well if cellared. 93pts
