A Pinot Noir made from chosen blocks in the Matahiwi Estate vineyard in Wairarapa. Quite a dense, dark burgundy red colour in the glass. Enticingly perfumed with black cherry, blueberry and bramble fruits, plus a savoury nip of autumn leaves, tapenade and dried herbs. A youthful freshness to the medium-bodied palate that is fruit-forward and energetic. A spine of fine tannin, toasty oak and juicy acidity provides structure without being rigid or complicating what is a straightforward and easy to like Pinot Noir. The regional style shows more as you progress, with spice and savoury taking over, into a dry finish. 90pts
