This Hawke’s Bay Syrah is made from fruit off the Estate’s Te Awanga vineyards. An inky and dark purple colour in the glass. The note is lively and juicy, with blueberry, boysenberry, damson plum, liquorice, white pepper, vanilla and violet floral notes. Lighter on the palate than that depth of colour and bombastic nose suggests, but with good concentration of fruit flavours framed with toasty oak. The balance between smooth tannin and crisp acidity gives life, length and drive to the palate. A decent length to the finish too. 92pts
