Stonecroft Old Vine Chardonnay 2019

A wine from the Estate vineyard at Roys Hill in the Gimblett Gravels sub-region of Hawke’s Bay. The perfume starts with a nip of struck-match reductivity that gives way to rich and ripe fruit flavours of pear, grapefruit, nectarine and lemon curd, with a little nougat, cashew and baking spice. A keen acidity starts off the palate, which has good weight and body. A touch of fruit tannin adds interest and texture. Oak is well judged and brings a smoky layer to go with the spice and lees influences. Well-balanced now and in a prime drinking window. 92pts
