A wine from a legendary Hawke’s Bay producer – John Hancock – with assistance from his boys – using fruit from the Bridge Pa sub-region. A very pale straw colour in the glass. The bouquet is brimming with ripe golden fruit – peach, quince and melon, with cashew nut, vanilla and nougat. There is texture immediately, with a lush, mouth-filling intensity that sits well with the toast from the oak, creating a richness and depth. Acidity is just right – low by modern standards, and gives enough line to the palate. Well-balanced and well-made, with many layers of character that unfold as you progress. The finish is dry with spice and excellent length. 93pts
