A Chardonnay from ‘the golden slopes’ of Gisborne – handpicked and whole bunch pressed. Showing a vibrant golden-green colour in the glass. The perfume is equally golden with quince, yellow peach, satsuma, citrus and pear and a lift of lemon blossom to the top notes. The palate is ripe and unctuous, dripping with plush fruit flavours, but there’s also a good element of bitterness from a pithy character that offers balance. Acidity is bright and there is usually no shortage of oak from this producer, but, again, there is a poise and balance to the wine that keeps it in line. The finish is lengthy and harmonious. 93pts
