At the top of the Mt Maude vineyard, there are six rows of Dijon clone Pinot Noir clones – planted for each of the six grandchildren of owner’s Dawn and Terry Wilson – and known as ‘Kid’s Block’. The nose is a pure Pinot-varietal perfume, with black cherry, redcurrant, raspberry and elderberry spiced up with clove, cinnamon and orange peel. The palate has a firm structure built on a juicy acidity, but with dry tannin in support. An earthy, savoury, mid-palate with peat, nori and terracotta adds complexity over that plush fruit. A well-balanced, dry and persistent finish for a wine that is drinking very well straightaway. 93pts
