This family of wines from Rapaura Springs have newly re-designed golden labels for the 2024 vintage. The word ‘ROHE’ means territory, and the range showcases Marlborough’s sub-regions. Probably the best recognised of those, this Rapaura wine occupies the more familiar Marlborough Sauvignon ‘typicity’ section of the taste spectrum. Gooseberry is an unusual identifier, as not that many people may have actually tried one – but I had them growing in the garden when I was young, and it is the signature flavour here. Also in the scent is passionfruit, blackcurrant, box wood, chamomile and lemon. A crisp acidity highlights the fruit and there is some weight through the palate. A touch of savoury and mineral shows in a peppery, stony layer before a mouth-watering, well-balanced finish. 92pts
