A Hawke’s Bay wine, from this producer’s excellent range of Syrah bottlings – with this one being deliberately “released young”. A mid-ruby gloss in the glass. It is intensely scented with a varietal Syrah perfume. Bright, light plum, boysenberry, blueberry fruits are underpinned by graphite, olive and ground spice, plus a final flourish of violet florals. Juicy and fruit-forward in the palate, without any discernable oak influence. Some crushed herb flavours add a stalky green note mid-palate. The well-integrated tannins and gentle acidity slide you through to a spicy, dry and mouth-watering finish. 89pts
