A wine from Oslavia in the Friuli region of Italy – next to the border with Slovenia. Made from Ribolla grapes fermented in Georgian amphorae buried underground, then aged in large format oak barrels for six years. An amber, toffee colour in the glass. A bouquet filled with scents of apricot, crushed green herbs, lemon peel, blood orange, incense, seaweed, almond and jasmine. Managing to be firm and dry, yet dripping with plush, sweet fruit, the palate is a riot of flavour and texture. A tense grip of tannin continues from start to finish. Wet stone, baking spice, walnut and beeswax lie waiting in layers, emerging slowly and holding your attention. The finish is rich, smoky and persistent. 95pts
