From the beautiful Hawke’s Bay vineyard of the same name – made from organic Sauvignon Blanc with plenty of skin contact before pressing. A slightly opaque golden colour, with just a hint of green. A delicious green and gold perfume to match the colour – sorrel, grapefruit pith, apricot and nectarine, passionfruit and pear. Elements of yeast – like a good fino sherry, and then a little baking spice and pepper brings it back to the more familiar. The palate has a lot going on – it is textural and funky, phenolic and edgy, smooth and vibrant, in layers of interest. The finish is rounded and generous, with just a little ‘bite’. A good wine from a not-so-great vintage. 93pts
