The top-level single vineyard Syrah from this small producer in Hawke’s Bay. 2020 was an excellent vintage. A deep, slightly opaque, garnet red colour in the glass. The depth of colour and vibrancy of the perfume give a hint to what’s to come. Damson plum, cherry, elderberry, salami, five spice, white pepper and a lift of exotic floral as a top note. Still quite tight in the palate, which bodes well for long term cellaring. The oak is gravelly and toasty, and there is an intense iron-earth minerality running the length of the palate. Fine tannins give a litle grip and a silken texture adds a roundness. Well-made and another classy Hawke’s bay Syrah to add to the burgeoning list. 94pts
