A wine from Central Otago, and specifically the Alexandra sub-region – from their Earnscleugh vineyard. A deep ruby colour in the glass. A bright and light perfume, showing red cherry, raspberry, clove, cranberry, thyme and some lilac floral notes. Medium-bodied at most, the palate echoes the scent, with a delicacy and suppleness that is quite elegant. Herbal, forest-floor, and tapenade flavours add a savoury side, whilst the tannin and subtle oak provide a backbone. Very harmonious and well-balanced – this 16-year old is drinking very well shows the calibre of good Pinot from this area. Good length and finesse. 94pts
