A wine from Waiheke – a small single vineyard block – in a great vintage for 2020. A bright ruby purple colour in the glass. Effusively aromatic and quite varietally-typical. The perfume is bold, with dark plum, cocoa, cherry cola, blackberry, cassis, white pepper and a lift of violet florals. Rich, spicy and warming in the palate, with the brooding ripeness of the plush fruit in this stellar vintage bleeding through. Acidity and tannin are well integrated and balanced. Some vanilla and toasty spice from the oak signature adds depth to an already weighty ‘Reserve style’ expression. An impressive debut and will age very, very well I think. 95pts
