144 Islands ‘Remy Jacob’ 2023

A red blend of 78% Petit Verdot, 14% Syrah and 8% Grenache, from the Bay of Islands. Quite rare to find either a blend of these varietals, or to see Petit Verdot as the major component. Quite a pale translucent claret-ruby colour in the glass. The perfume speaks of some whole-bunch winemaking – with that tell-tale volume of spice and floral aromatics. Compelling and youthful, the nose brims with cranberry, raspberry, candied plum, sumac, amaro and a lovely lift of violet and lilac at the top. Medium-bodied at most, there is a zesty acidity and plump tannin that builds weight in the palate. An abundance of red fruits and a gentle spice work in unison. Finishing dry and focused, it has good length. 92pts
