A Cabernet Franc from Hawke’s Bay – from a new range of wines, all with names and faces on the labels that are dedicated to family members – this one is a tribute to Jenny’s mother – Francie. A light ruby-garnet red in the glass, with a varietally-identifiable scent. Perfumed with redcurrant, tobacco leaf, raspberry, black olive, rosehip jelly and a peaty earthiness. The palate is agile and fresh, with ripe fruit flavours cruising on a wave of acidity. Tannin adds firmness to the structure, and although it has a youthful lightness of touch, there is depth and texture that builds as you go. A savoury, umami edge before a finish with some persistence – potential for cellaring here I’d say. 93pts
