Dark carmine red in the glass, with a ripe and inviting fragrance. On the nose there is a top note of spring flowers, with smoky mushroom and minerality mingling with the red cherry aromas. The palate is lithe but succulent, nothing dominating and quite accessible. More ripe fruit is obvious, with spiced plum and blueberries and an earthy herbal influence comes through. Lightly oaked with soft acidity and a gentle chalkiness to the tannins.
Overall, an elegant and sleek wine, and, being from a great vintage, this may well age beautifully, filling out and developing in the bottle.
