A single vineyard wine from the Bendigo sub-region of Central Otago. The Ghost Town vineyard is on Chinaman’s Terrace, where over 2000 Chinese miners lived in the 1860’s. It is slightly warmer than the Mt Difficulty Bannockburn vineyards, but the elevation balances that out, and it is often picked after the home vineyards. A dense, dark purple in the glass. A vibrant perfume of damson, blackcurrant, boysenberry, cracked pepper, peat, paprika and liquorice. The savoury notes grow into the palate, with iron-earth, incense, tapenade and charcuterie flavours mingling with the glossy red fruit. A well-balanced structure shows a smudge of oak, supple tannin and resinous acidity – set up for a long future if well-cellared. The finish is spicy, succulent and long. 93pts
