From North Canterbury – a blend of three vineyards. The fruit is whole bunch fermented in open-top fermenters, then aged in clay amphora and old barrels for around 6 months. In the glass is an opaque orange-gold colour. The aromas are vaguely Vermouth-like, brimming with apricot, marmalade, cardamom, cloves, pink cherry and orange blossom. A muzzy fruit tannin coats the flavours in a phenolic swaddle, the palate turning savoury and tight. A spicy jalapeno note kicks into the finish, which is jazzy and long. 93pts
