One of New Zealand’s best regarded wines, from low-yielding old vines (of over twenty years age), on the Martinborough Terrace. A vibrant ruby-purple in the glass. Youthful, energetic aromas showing a leafiness and minerality layered over the red cherry, cassis, raspberry and orange peel fruit notes. The earthy savouriness continues into the palate, with a swag of spice and white pepper propped up by some fine, chalky tannins. Surprisingly approachable for such a juvenile wine, the texture is already captivating and plush. Concentrated and complex yet sensitive and nuanced, this bodes very well for its future, with layers of interest that will just meld together even more sumptuously given time. 96pts
