A 100% Sauvignon Blanc wine, from the Parkburn Vineyard in Central Otago. An expression far removed from what the world expects from a Sauvignon Blanc in New Zealand. The juice pressed straight to French oak, and the best barrels picked by Rockburn winemaker Malcolm Rees-Francis for this special release. A shining pale gold colour in the glass. I’m noticing a definitive crisp seam of minerality in the best of the Central Otago white wines I’m tasting in the last year or so, and this has that in spades. A perfume that has a crushed-shell, wet stones and terracotta note laid over lemon peel, white nectarine and red apple fruit flavours. Dry, with a smoky barrel influence that works well with the ripe, juicy fruit. A creamy texture fills the palate, but the brisk acidity gives plenty of drive. A herbal, spiciness to the long finish. 93pts
