This is the ‘Barrique Reserve’ expression of the three Viogniers that this Northland label produce – including an un-oaked version and a Late Harvest one too. The 2020 vintage of this wine won the Trophy for Champion viognier at NZIWS in 2021. A pale golden-green colour in the glass. A fragrance of pear, honey, lemon peel, baking spice and nectarine. A silky texture immediately on the palate, but with a slew of vibrant acid to pep things up. The barrel element is underplayed, adding just an extra layer of interest, as that smoothness slides you into a dry, harmonic finish. 92pts
