From 35 hectares of on the Kittmannsberg vineyard, which is rated the Austrian version of ‘Premier Cru’ (OTW Erste Lage) – one of the highest elevated vineyard sites in the Kamptal. A pale green-gold in the glass. A complex and fairly intense aroma greets you with ripe red-skinned pear, lemon zest, dried papaya, cress, grilled pineapple and orange blossom. Almost a breakfast wine – I’m sure I get honey on toast and darjeeling tea into a palate that has plenty of fuzzy phenolic grip and that distinctive peppery nip so distinctive of the varietal. Broadening through the palate and into a plush textural silkiness with spice and yet finishing dry and artfully balanced. 92pts
