A rare treat to find a single varietal Semillon – one of only a few produced in NZ. A very pale straw colour in the glass, you are presented with a lovely ‘dry white wine’ set of aromas – it’s not easily identifiable by varietal. Grapefruit, pear, white peach and lemon peel are coupled with a perfume not unlike fresh hay, with brioche, fennel and vanilla. The texture is upfront – quite waxy and plush, almost creamy. Then the acidity rushes in, buoyant with a zesty drive into a fairly complex and layered palate. The warm spice comes from old oak barrels used in the production, adding more richness. The finish is dry and persistent. 93pts
