A Methode Traditionelle wine, made in the Champagne style – under license from the Deutz house in Champagne. From grapes in Marlborough’s Wairau Valley, and from a single year – a 2017 vintage. A light gold colour in the glass, with a fine, silky bead of bubbles. Perfumed with white peach, chestnut, lemongrass, grapefruit and golden apple. A lighter, bright aperitif style, threaded with a quartzy acidity. A few things to find amongst the palate here – a toasty breadcrumb, marzipan, crushed-shell minerality and some baking spice. The finish is long and dry. 90pts
