A pale golden-slate in the glass, with a waft of equally golden aromas – pear, ginger, quince, allspice, white peach and honeysuckle on the nose. Succulently ripe and just off-dry with a delicate balance and detail to the palate. Youthful, refreshing and bright, but with a deeper richness and spice to the core, that hints at some complexity of (old) oak, minerality and lees-influenced weight and texture. Really well-made wine with bags of character – indeed, the crispness of acid and that drying, chalky quality from the lees-ageing suggests that this would age very well. It’s also a great all-round food match – for me a chicken roulade with herbs and a nip of chilli worked well with this drop. 92pts
