Taking fruit from a premium site at the coast in Hawke’s Bay, to produce their Reserve Chardonnay, I was first introduced to this by the winemaker earlier this year. A fuller, voluptuous style, perfumed with golden peach, nut brittle, lemon curd, melon, straw, nutmeg and orange blossom. Generous with the oak – the toast and vanilla framing the fruit and adding warmth and a full openness to the palate. Crisp acidity provides a line that balances well with that plush depth, and I found a layer of savoury piquancy that gives more complexity towards the dry, measured finish. 91pts
