From two sites in Marlborough – Wairau Valley and Southern Valleys, an award-winner showcasing this classic Loire variety – unusual to find on it’s own from the South Island.
Crisp pale lemon colour in the glass; elegant and highly fragrant with lively grapefruit and golden apple. Rich and weighty, but by racy acidity, presenting concentrated white peach and persimmon flavours through a medium weight palate. Bone dry, but with a lemon curd creaminess and a hint of toasty oak. Not an easy variety to pick – both Riesling and Chardonnay fans will find much to enjoy in this wine. Full of youthful liveliness now, this wine is set up for cellaring, where a honeyed complexity will develop.
