A single vineyard Chardonnay – coming from Marlborough’s Omaka Valley. A pale lemon-green in the glass, with an opening salvo of smoky reductivity and citrus on the nose. Tangerine, red apple, hazelnut, chamomile and a delicious pithy grapefruit note. Bold, concentrated and juicy – not too tight or closed in the palate, swelling with plenty of bright fruit. Good acidity gives drive, and some well judged oak sits nicely in the background – toasty and vanilla spiced. A layer of savoury flavours emerges as the wine evolves – preserved lemon, sourdough, fennel and saline minerality. A long, dry finish. 94pts
