From syrah grapes, the special block that they create an excellent single vineyard Syrah from in Hawke’s Bay. A refined, coppery salmon pink colour in the glass, with delicate floral notes and aromatics on the nose. Perfumed with strawberry, almond, red liquorice, chamomile, cherry, ginger, pomegranete and lilac. Dry, taut and with a brisk line of acidity. The palate has a sweet/sour crunch of redcurrant, fennel, mangetout and sliced hard green pear. A textural minerality brings another edge to this already nicely complex wine. Drink young, and I’d savour this characterful, elegant style as an aperitif drink as well as an outstanding match to a range of food. 92pts
