A wine from Martinborough, the heart of Pinot Noir – in the North Island certainly. A medium, bright ruby colour in the glass. It doesn’t have that signature Martinborough bloody, earthy character on the nose, instead leading with a vivacious floral note of buddleia, lavender and lilac. Plenty of plush red fruit in the perfume too – cranberry, rosehip, cherry and plum. Medium body with a lovely agility and poise into the palate. Nothing too dense or complex here, with sweet fruit, zingy acidity and ripe, firm tannins. Baking spice, blood orange and date notes emerge as the wine moves in a calm, smooth path across the palate. Well-rounded and glossy, with a delicate, lingering finish. 92pts
