Their top level Chardonnay, from a single vineyard in the Lower Waihopai Valley, Marlborough. 2016 is the current release – consumers reaping the benefits of some bottle age. A richly aromatic nose of peach, marzipan, dried banana, cashew butter, spice and mandarin zest. A big powerful style, with concentration and complexity. Exotic and plush fruits – mango and rockmelon meet a delicious line of savoury flavours – green olive, oyster shell and cassia bark. Lots going on, but with a svelte balance and harmony. Good acidity, toasty oak and a mealy, creamy texture. The palate is wonderfully elongated and the finish is similarly long and fine. 94pts
