A Barossa Shiraz, with fruit from Barossa Valley and Eden Valley. A dark, brooding, deepest purple colour in the glass; with aromas of boysenberry, coffee bean, cherry, star anise, cassis, damson, black pepper and lavender on the nose. Approachable and smooth into the palate that is inky and curvaceous. Plenty of structure here despite that youthful verve – a coconut edge of oak that is spicy and warm but without being woody. Dense, concentrated and power-packed, with firm, chewy tannins to match. A little savouriness is led by that pepper and spice, but also has soy, black tea and cacao nib flavours edging in. The finish is excellent – with great length and a finesse that belies the boisterousness of the palate. 94pts
