From Northland, nice to see a single varietal bottling of Cabernet Franc. A bright deep ruby colour, with fragrant aromatics of cranberry, blackcurrant, cloves, plum, black olive, thyme and rosehip. Fairly big on the oak, with a warming, toasty entry to the palate, and framing the vibrant fruit well. Tannin is chewy, firm, at this stage, but fits in well to what is a robust, full-bodied wine. Savoury notes that have an umami, balsam, resinous quality emerge and add complexity and depth. Still youthful, this has good structure and therefore some potential for cellaring. 91pts
